The AcademX Team believes STEM education will be crucial to the livelihood of the next and upcoming generations. Careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics will pave the way for future achievement and well-being as more jobs are becoming increasingly automated and streamlined robotics are becoming more popular in the workforce. Introducing and engaging our tween age children to these educational fields helps to ensure their success as they pursue their academic careers from primary school onwards.
Women are currently underrepresented in all STEM occupations worldwide and women of ethnic decent disproportionately so. The AcademX Team believes we can change this for girls of the future by introducing them to STEM learning early on in their education. The AcademX Space Crew is comprised of 5 support characters, 3 of which are females that hold prominent STEM jobs on board their spaceship: Quark, Cipher, and Aurora.
When a girl joins the AcademX universe and creates a female Star Agent she shifts the gender ratio to “4 females : 2 males”. This creates a female dominant work environment aboard the AcademX wherein the majority of support characters are highly skilled, intelligent, and positive role models for girls everywhere. Our intentional goal with a female dominant cast is to promote young girls to engage in STEM learning and inquire about nontraditional STEM fields of interest.
Men currently dominate all STEM occupations worldwide and young male youths are more likely to participate in STEM related fields of interest as they grow older and pursue higher education. The AcademX Team believes we can help shape the perceptions of boys of the future by demonstrating gender equality and balanced work forces starting at a young age. The AcademX Space Crew is comprised of 5 support characters, 2 of which are males that hold traditional STEM jobs on board their spaceship: Bunsen and Hammer.
When a boy joins the AcademX universe and creates a male Star Agent he shifts the gender ratio to “3 males : 3 females”. This creates a gender balanced work environment on board the AcademX wherein all characters are highly skilled, intelligent, and positive role models for everyone. Our intentional goal with a gender balanced cast is to tear down stereotypes and demonstrate to boys that their female counterparts are equally capable, knowledgeable, and proficient in STEM related fields of work.
Tween age children identify best with books and literature that they feel is personally relevant to them and have a strong emotional connection towards. The AcademX Team, upon the conception of this ground-breaking project, knew that we wanted to break the traditional mold of having one central main character with a fixed ethnicity, gender, and race that all readers had to try and identify with. Instead we decided to create a new genre of comic books wherein young readers can personalize their own protagonist based on their individual preferences. That’s why we allow our readers to determine the name, gender, and skin tone of their Star Agent; because you shouldn’t have to imagine yourself as the star in a story, we believe you should be that star- always!
